Ford Letting Jeff Bezos into Your Car with Key by Amazon
In the name of making the world just that little bit safer from porch pirates and crusty jugglers, Ford is bringing Key by Amazon in-vehicle delivery to eligible vehicles. By using Key by Amazon in conjunction with your Amazon Prime membership, you can have packages delivered directly to your Ford or Lincoln and be confident that all the doors are locked after.
Lorin Kennedy, the Ecosystem Business Leader for FordPass, announced the news in a post on Medium. Kennedy lays out the qualifications in the article: Key by Amazon is being offered on select 2017 and newer Ford vehicles with FordPass Connect and select 2018 and new Lincoln vehicles with Lincoln Connect. You must have an Amazon Prime account and a FordPass or Lincoln Way account as they will be linked for the delivery process.

By selecting in-vehicle delivery, you’ll be notified when a delivery is getting ready to take place and when it has been completed. Before leaving, the Amazon driver will have to verify that your vehicle has been locked. You’ll also have the ability to alter delivery instructions and have your package redirected or rescheduled.
Kennedy also used the post to explain Ford’s plans for mobile car-washes, which would make it easier for drivers to keep their vehicles shiny despite a breakneck schedule:
“[I]n addition to Key by Amazon, we’re also working with several different on-demand car wash services through FordPass and Lincoln Way, to give people the option to purchase eco-friendly car washes from Spiffy, RUB A DUB, and Sparkl wherever these services are available,” she writes.
Before you know it, you’ll be able to get Chinese takeout ordered directly to your Ford. Oh, what a wonderful world that would be.
