Ford of Europe achieved its highest May sales total in nine years last month, delivering 118,700 vehicles across its traditional Euro 20 markets. One of the largest contributing factors to this success was a 28 percent year-over-year uptick in sales of SUVs, which Ford says now account for approximately 20 percent of all Ford vehicles sold on the continent.
“Ford of Europe had its best May for total vehicle sales in nine years, driven by continued growth in SUVs and a strong month for Focus,” said Ford of Europe Vice President of Marketing, Sales, and Service Roelant de Waard. “Ford is again Europe’s top-selling commercial vehicle brand, as the Transit family and Ranger continue to deliver record sales.”

Ford scored its best May in terms of commercial vehicle sales since 1993 and its best May for CV market share since 1996. A total of 31,500 CVs were delivered in the Euro 20, up 5.2 percent year over year. Market share grew by 0.3 percentage points to 13.3 percent. The Transit lineup accounted for 25,600 vehicles sold alone, good for a new all-time best for the month of May.
Britain, Germany, Italy, France, and Turkey were Ford’s top five markets by registrations in May. In terms of market share, Ford was led by Britain, Turkey, Ireland, Hungary, and Finland.
Sales in the UK totaled 28,099 vehicles, up 14.6 percent from May 2017. The Ford Fiesta, Galaxy, Ranger, Tourneo Custom, Transit, Transit Connect, Transit Courier, and Transit Custom all topped their respective segments.
“Ford also now has the freshest commercial vehicle line-up in the UK after we unveiled the all-new Fiesta Sport van at the CV show last month. Sitting alongside the new Transit Custom, Transit Connect and Transit Courier our latest Transit products are now equipped with more technology than ever before, including FordPass Connect with on-board modem,” said Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director.
Through May, Ford of Europe’s sales are down 0.4 percent at 614,600 vehicles delivered.
