In its continuing pursuit to create a more engrossing and encompassing fan experience, Formula One has announced a new program called “Pirelli Hot Laps,” the first of which will launch at this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix. Nine more will follow, which means about half of the races on the calendar will feature the new experience.

Pirelli Hot Laps will provide “spectators, celebrities and guests attending a Grand Prix” the opportunity to be driven around the racing circuits in exotic supercars by professional racing drivers. Aston Martin and McLaren have already confirmed their participation in all ten events, and more manufacturers are expected to follow.

That means you could be driven by Daniel Ricciardo or Max Verstappen in a V8-powered Aston Martin Vantage, or by Mika Häkkinen and Fernando Alonso in a McLaren 720S (we would recommend one of the latter combinations if given the choice, though don’t expect Häkkinen to be very conversational). We wouldn’t be surprised to see a Honda NSX join the roster.

Pirelli, the official tire supplier for the sport, is also the exclusive partner for the experience and will use the opportunity to show off its P Zero road car tire range on the sports cars and supercars involved. Expect plenty of rubber to be burned.

Supposedly, those interested in gaining access to these experiences may be able to do so via special promotions and competitions arranged throughout the season, though details have yet to be shared about what these will be exactly. More than likely it will be celebrities, corporate sponsors and other wealthy people who will get first access to the experiences, as they do to all other nice things in life.
