Ghostbuster Fans Caught a Ride in the Ecto-1 Thanks to Lyft
Ghost hunting is hard business, especially if you don’t have a ride. So, if you’re on your way to catch yourself some ghosts, but don’t have an Ecto-1 like Ghostbusters do, who ya gonna call?
Lyft.
Yeah, we wouldn’t have expected that to be the answer to that question either. But there you have it.
From July 1st to July 2nd, Lyft offered free rides in the Ecto-1 to its Ghostbuster-crazy users in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. Along with this pretty sweet ride, there was also Ghostbusters-themed refreshments, including Hi-C Ecto Cooler and Twinkies with green filling. You know, just in case the riders needed a snack after all the ghostbusting they did. I mean, there were even Slimer hats that basically turn your entire head into the infamous ghost.

It really doesn’t get much better than that.
This program, which Lyft referred to as “Ghost Mode,” was part of the promotional campaign for the new Ghostbusters movie. The movie is set to debut this weekend across the United States and will star some really rad ladies, including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Oh, and we would be remiss not to mention Chris Hemsworth, too.
While the original Ecto-1 was actually a 1959 Cadillac built by Miller-Meteor, the new ride for the female Ghostbusters is a 1984 Cadillac DeVille hearse. Though the new Cadi isn’t as iconic as the original—so much so that there’s a lot of hubbub circulating criticizing the new movie’s choice in vehicles—there’s really no doubt that the new Ecto-1 is the car you want to take to a ghost fight.
