GM Canada Reports March, 1st Quarter Sales

General Motors—through its Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac brands—totaled 21,027 sales in Canada during the month of March. This figure marks a 3.5% year-over-year decrease, but a significant quarterly increase in GM’s truck sales is indicative of better months ahead.

“Our three truck strategy of mid-size, light duty and heavy duty trucks was designed to provide our customers with a full range of options and choices in pickup trucks to suit their individual needs,” said John Roth, vice president, sales, service and marketing for GM Canada. “This positioned us well to respond to this month’s continued strong customer demand for pickup trucks.

“Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks grew their sales in March, with month-over-month increases for the Chevrolet Silverado (14%) and GMC Sierra (11%), and the all-new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups are continuing to grow their place in the Canadian market,” Roth added.

Highlights for GM during the month include the Buick Regal gaining 75% over March 2014,  putting it 33% ahead of its pace for the first quarter of 2014; the LaCrosse posting its 7th straight month of sales gains (up 44%) and moving to 73% ahead of its sales in Q1 2014; the GMC brand seeing its best March in a decade and its 9th straight month of overall sales growth; and the Cadillac brand’ best March since 2007.
