A rumored expansion for the Wentzville location could bring in as much as $1 billion in funding
Mid-size pickup trucks are some of the best-selling and most profitable models out on the market today. As such, automakers are looking to invest more money and research into this segment.

The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are both assembled in Wentzville. Additionally, the plant also oversees the assembly of the GMC Savana and the Chevrolet Express.
This rumored investment would arrive just in time for the next generations of the Colorado and Canyon. GM recently developed a whole new generation of vehicles for the larger Silverado and Sierra, and is now looking to do the same for its mid-size truck models.
Earlier this month, officials from GM met with the governor of Missouri. Although lawmakers weren’t aware of any details surrounding this meeting, an investment in the Wentzville plant could have certainly been on the docket.
As for GM, it had this to say:
“GM regularly meets with communities and officials to discuss mutual priorities. Although we have no announcements or information to share at this time, we appreciate the willingness of state officials in Missouri to work with us on potential opportunities within the state.”

GM is currently investing in a select handful of its manufacturing plants, including the Orion plant in Michigan and the Bowling Green plant in Kentucky. At the same time, it has idled several of its U.S. manufacturing locations, including the Lordstown plant in Ohio.
Due to the fact that Wentzville continues to produce profitable pickups, an investment in the plant seems far more likely than a idling in the future.
