Gran Turismo 6 Update 1.15 Adds Chaparral 2X VGT Concept and More
The latest Gran Turismo 6 update is available today (December 17), and it includes all of the Vision Gran Turismo (VGT) concepts designed by the world’s major automakers. The VGT concepts mark the 15th anniversary of Gran Turismo and are representations of the future of racing, in the eyes of these major automakers.
Included in the Gran Turismo 6 update 1.15 package are the Mercedes-Benz AMG VGT, the Volkswagen GTI Roadster VGT, the INFINITI CONCEPT VGT, the BMW Vision Gran Turismo, the NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 VGT, the SUBARU VIZIV GT VGT, the Aston Martin DP-100 VGT, the TOYOTA FT-1 VGT, and the Mitusbishi Concept XR-PHEV EVOLUTION VGT (because Mitsubishi wanted to feel involved). But perhaps the mack daddy of them all was the Chaparral 2X VGT concept, put together by Chevrolet and Chaparral Racing.
“The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision GT serves as an example of what our designers are capable of when they are cut loose, no holds barred,” remarked Ed Welburn, who is the vice president of GM Global Design. “It’s a fantasy car in every sense of the word.”
Fantasy car is right (for now). The Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo concept is powered by a concept propulsion system that uses lasers to create 900 horsepower of pure thrust. It can do 0 to 60 in just 1.5 seconds.
Oh, and did we mention that the driver does not sit down but instead drives the car by lying belly-down and spreading his or her arms and legs like a bat in flight? Because yeah, that happens too.
