Keselowski Misses Cut, But Logano Makes Championship Round for Penske
Joey Logano had hoped that the momentum from winning the DAV 200 – Honoring America’s Veterans at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday would be enough to help carry him into the final round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup on Sunday.
Despite stirring up a fourth-place finish in the Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500, NASCAR’s favorite wrestling heel was not able to grab the coveted fourth and final spot in the Championship Round.
Just missing the cut in fifth place overall, Keselowski will not be representing Team Penske as one of the final contenders for the 2014 Sprint Cup Championship despite winning six races throughout the season.
“It doesn’t feel good to have won the most races and not being in it at Homestead, but it still feels like it has been a great season, winning six races,” Keselowski said. “Nobody is going to win anymore than that, and that’s something we’re proud of.”
Team Penske will not go unrepresented in the final round, however. Joey Logano, who finished sixth on Sunday, joins Denny Hamlin, Ryan Newman, and Kevin Harvick in the final four to run for the Cup on Sunday at the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
“This team deserves to be in the final,” Logano said Sunday. “We proved throughout this whole Chase and through the whole year.”
