NASCAR Recap: Logano Wins Second Consecutive Chase Race
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Matt Kenseth led a race high 153 laps Sunday at Kansas, but it was the No. 22 Ford Fusion driven by Joey Logano that ultimately won the race.
With approximately five laps left, Logano’s racecar made contact with Kenseth’s–who was in the lead–causing his vehicle to spin out. Kenseth was not all happy about Logano’s racing tactics.
“He decided to just take us out,” said Kenseth. “Anybody can see what happened. He knows what happened. Everybody that was watching knows what happened.”
Logano held off Danny Hamlin on the final re-start to pick up his fifth win of the season. Logano had already sealed a spot in the next round of the NASCAR playoffs by virtue of his win last week at Charlotte and he made no apologies for the way he won at Kansas.
“That’s good, hard racing,” said Logano. “We were racing each other really hard. I felt like I got fenced twice. He raced me hard, so I raced him back.”
Danny Hamlin finished the race in second and five-time Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson followed him in third. Kasey Kahne and Kyle Busch rounded out the top-five.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished the race in 21st and is in need of victory next week to seal his spot in the next round of the playoffs.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be visiting Talladega Superspeedway on October 25th. The race is scheduled to start at 2:30 pm and will be broadcast by NBCSN.
