“From the Astra we know how much customers appreciate the benefits of IntelliLux LED matrix headlights” says Ingolf Schneider, Engineering Group Manager Exterior Lighting. “Now we are bringing the even more advanced second generation of this innovative technology onto the market in the all-new Insignia, with additional new functions that further improve visibility at night.”
The next-generation update adds a function that raisins the intensity of the inner matrix segments’ light to accommodate the steering angle, providing more visibility around curves. It also adds a high-beam spotlight that provides long-range visibility for up to 400 meters, making the 2017 Insignia particularly effective for nighttime driving.
These improvements add to the Insignia’s IntelliLux LED matrix headlights carrying 32 LED segments, twice the number of LED segments available in the next-generation Opel Astra. This allows for smoother transitions between LED segments and more precise situational adaptiveness, helping the Insignia’s headlamps produce more brighter light than the Astra.
Other functions of Opel’s IntelliLux LED matrix headlights carry over from the Astra, including the ability to adapt range and distribution of light to be more effective in any and all driving environs and conditions. The previous-gen IntelliLux LED system won the 2015 SAFETYBEST Award from AUTOBEST, as well as the International Paul Pietsch Award 2016 earlier this year at Auto, Motor, und Sport’s 40th annual Best Cars readers’ choice awards.
The Opel Insignia Grand Sport is set to make its world premiere in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
