Steven Armstrong Named New President of Changan Ford JV
Ford Motor Company has announced that Steven Armstrong will take the mantle of president for its Changan Ford joint venture in China effective Oct. 1. Armstrong, the current chairman of Ford of Europe, replaces Nigel Harris, who will retire from Ford after 34 years with the company. Harris plans to work directly with Armstrong during the transition period and will continue to advise Changan Ford until his retirement at year’s end.

“Steve’s leadership will help us further strengthen the Changan Ford JV as we bring more new vehicles to the China market, including our first global all-electric small SUV,” said Ford President and CEO Jim Hackett. “His deep understanding of Ford and the automotive industry and keen ability to build productive relationships with partners and employees around the globe will serve us well as we drive Ford’s growth in China.”
Armstrong has spent over 30 years in the automotive industry, and previous roles with Ford include stints as the president and chairman of Ford of Europe, Middle East, and Africa and president of Ford South America. He was also the COO of Volvo during the divesture to Geely Automotive, and he earned an Automotive News Eurostar award in 2005 for his work in bolstering supplier relations within the Volvo network.
Prior to his current and final role with Ford, Harris served as the president of Ford India Private Limited and VP of Asia Pacific Sales, Services, and Distribution. He began his time with Ford in New Zealand in 1985 as a fleet sales analyst. Harris is also a company officer on the Ford Board of Directors.
