The long-awaited debut of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is scheduled for December 16th. We haven’t officially gotten a fair look at the small sedan (wink wink), but we might have gotten in a couple good glances from some of Autoblog’s spy photos. (Okay, okay, we saw the whole thing.) Only a few features have been announced for the new, elegant class of car, but among them is the Stop&Go Pilot, an innovative approach to the high stress of traffic jams.
Stop&Go Pilot is meant to keep cars in their lanes automatically, bringing the car to a full stop from slow speeds (like in the start and stop traffic of a congested highway at rush hour or following an accident). More impressive, the technology can then propel the car forward again after the complete stop, when traffic begins to move again. (Adaptive cruise control, which many cars now feature, can only maintain highway speeds but shuts down when the car comes to a complete stop.)
Stop&Go Pilot is one of the many features that make up the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive, which is aimed at autonomous driving for safer roadways. Other features of Intelligent Drive include Route Pilot and Traffic Sign Assist. Route Pilot is able to steer the vehicle for the driver using production sensors while Traffic Sign Assist (which will likely only be available in Europe) will monitor speed limit signs, do not enter signs, and no passing zone signs.
Other features in the all-new 2015 C-Class include an air-freshness control feature and a touchpad between the seats to control the touchscreen display. Because, you know, you totally need a separate pad to control a touchscreen.
