Wearing a quality pair of sunglasses is imperative to protecting your eyes from sun damage during the day and improving your driving ability at night. According to the Centre for Sight, exposing your eyes to direct sunlight for 10 days in a row can diminish your night vision by 50 percent.
When you’re behind the wheel, make sure your car’s air vents are pointed away from your eyes. The editors of Reader’s Digest recommend pointing the air vents down toward your feet to prevent your eyes from being dried out from the forced air. During the day, sunglasses can be a welcome defense for your eyes, too.
If you don a pair of prescription glasses while driving, opt for lenses with antireflective coating. These are particularly helpful for night driving, as the antireflective coating provides an 8 percent reduction in the amount of light your eyes are exposed to, reports the Centre for Sight.
