Top Gear Auctioning Off Its “Reasonably Priced” Vauxhall Astra
If you live in the UK and you want to get your hands on (and behind the wheel of) a piece of history, you now have the opportunity to purchase a Vauxhall Astra that was driven on an episode of BBC’s Top Gear.
The five-door Power Red 1.6-liter Vauxhall Astra Tech Line is available on eBay right now, with all proceeds eventually going to BEN. BEN is a charity that offers a variety of important services to families and individuals in the automotive industry, up to and including specialist disability equipment for children and end-of-life care.
“We are reliant on the generosity of our supporters to enable us to continue our work helping people who work within the UK automotive industry, so we are very grateful to Vauxhall Motors for this kind donation of a piece of history for a great cause,” said David Main, BEN Chief Executive.
The Vauxhall Astra in question has 2,908 miles on the odometer and is equipped with 17-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, sat-nav with seven-inch color touchscreen, three-spoke leather sports steering wheel, and chrome-effect exterior side window surround.
For the purposes of its Top Gear segment, it was also equipped with Front Corbeau Sprint Racing seats and a five-point safety belt harness and roll-cage. Installation of the roll-cage required the disabling of the airbags, and it would need to be removed in order to have the airbags re-activated and, in effect, become street-legal. It’s warned that while the Vauxhall Tech Team would help the winning bidder in making it safe for roads, the process necessary to make it legal for public roads would cause the purchaser to “incur significant cost.” So there’s that.
The bidding ends in a little more than five-and-a-half days’ time. The bid for this Astra is currently at £8,100.00, which actually makes it a reasonably priced car…for the time being.
