With advanced driver assist tech, such as driver drowsiness monitoring, brake assist, crosswind assist, and a rearview mirror, as standard features, it’s not a surprise the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class snagged a spot on the safety-centric list. Add in the long list of available safety features such as traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, lane keep assist, active park assist, and a surround-view camera, the safety aptitude of the E-Class multiplies exponentially.
Its performance in crash tests was another pivotal reason that the E-Class earned a spot on the list.
“The E-Class earns five stars in all individual NHTSA crash tests and receives top honors from the IIHS. It scores a Good rating in every test and is designated as a Top Safety Pick+,” explains U.S. News & World Report writer Steven Loveday.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class follows in the drive-steps of the E-Class by offering an extensive and impressive list of safety technology, but by offering several advanced driver assist technologies as standard features — lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and the Mercedes’ Pre-Safe system as standard, the S-Class model earns a higher U.S. News score than the E-Class model. Evasive steering assist, night vision assist, active park assist, and forward collision warning are available on the S-Class.
