Mitsubishi Motors USA Foundation Creates Scholarship Fund
Mitsubishi is once again investing in the future of the United States. The Japanese carmaker recently announced a new scholarship program it is creating in partnership with O’Brien Mitsubishi of Normal, Illinois. These two organizations are coming together to offer a scholarship fund at Heartland Community College.
“Mitsubishi holds family and citizenship as core values and has a longstanding history of supporting the local community,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motors North America. “MMNA believes charitable giving to organizations is important to the health and well-being of the community and is part of our obligation as good corporate citizens.”
Five students from Normal Community High School, Normal West High School, and Bloomington High School will receive scholarships for the next five years. This means each student will receive a scholarship of either $500 or $1,000. This brings the entire cost of this scholarship program to $52,500 or $10,500 per year.
Mitsubishi and O’Brien Mitsubishi are planning on giving away a total of 75 scholarships in the next five years. Through this scholarship program, Mitsubishi is hoping to reinforce its ongoing commitment to the area, where it recently closed its assembly plant.
