2016 Nissan Rogue Overview

2016 Nissan Rogue White

The 2016 Nissan Rogue has been one of Nissan’s greatest successes – since its redesign back in the 2014 model year, it has been placed on “Best SUV,” “Best Family Car,” and “Best Value” lists, including a listing on Kelley Blue Book’s “10 Best All-Wheel-Drive Vehicles Under $25,000.” The Rogue was also listed as a 2015 “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Today, the Rogue is Nissan’s second-best-selling vehicle in the entire US market.

The 2016 Rogue comes in three trims (S, SV, and SL) with a number of packages, including the Family package (S and SV trims), which adds a third seating row and run-flat tires; an S Trim Appearance package, which combines the Family package with roof rails, turn-signal-integrated side mirrors, and chrome door handles; and Premium packages (SV and SL trims) which add a number of safety and infotainment features.

The Rogue is designed to be compact overall, but to provide lots of interior space using a long wheelbase, front and rear overhangs, and 77-degree-opening rear doors. In addition, the Rogue’s exterior is designed to reduce the drag co-efficient to 0.33 and mitigate air turbulence behind the body, using spoilers, under-body covers, front tire deflectors, and specially-designed rearview mirrors.

Each 2016 Rogue is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine which, coupled with a continuously variable transmission, produces 170 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. Each model comes standard with front-wheel drive, although each is available with all-wheel drive.

The 2016 Rogue has two different fuel economy ratings. The first is with the standard front-wheel drive, which yields 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. If the Rogue is equipped with available all-wheel drive, these numbers dip very slightly to 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

The Rogue’s interior is one of its strongest points. First, the Rogue features room for up to 7 passengers using an optional third row of seating. However, all seats but the driver’s fold down to open up a maximum of 70 cubic feet of cargo space (including a cargo system which includes lower deck and out-of-sight storage). The Rogue’s front seats are designed using Nissan’s “Zero Gravity” design, and the entire interior features soft-touch padding and trim.

The Rogue comes with a number of standard safety features, including side curtain airbags for each row of seats, a standard rear-view camera, and hill descent mode for all-wheel models. There are also several optional advanced safety features, including lane-departure warning, a forward collision warning system (with automatic braking on the SL trim), and the Around View camera system, which provides a top-down view of the area around the Rogue while parking. The NHTSA gave the 2016 Rogue four out of five stars for overall crash protection (four stars on front crash protection, and five stars on side crash protection), and the IIHS gave the Rogue the highest rating of “Good” in all categories.
