FCA is kicking off the 2020 Drive for Design contest, which allows U.S. high school students to imagine their own designs for the next Ram truck. This is the eighth year that the exciting competition will take place.
The 2020 Top Rated Truck: The 2020 Ram 1500
Contest background and details
Drive for Design first launched back in 2013 to give aspiring artists a look into the automotive designer career path. Mark Trostle, Head of Ram Truck Design at FCA, is passionate about the contest and hopes that it will encourage more talented individuals to become automotive designers.
“The landscape of automotive design has changed and today’s automotive designers not only sketch cars, they create some of the most advanced user experience systems, work with 3D technology, research color trends and create interior spaces that are multifunctional and beautiful,” said Trostle.
For the 2020 iteration of the contest, students in grades 10 to 12 can submit sketches of what they envision as a future Ram truck. The panel of judges will then select three winners, who will accept their awards on June 14.
The winners will receive a tour of the FCA Product Design studios and a scholarship for the College of Creative Studies’ Precollege Summer Experience Transportation Design program. They will even be acting as Junior Judges during the EyesOn Design Car Show in Michigan over Father’s Day weekend.
This year’s contest is starting off with an “Ask Me Anything” Facebook LIVE broadcast, featuring Trostle as well as Head of FCA Design Ralph Gilles. You can submit questions beforehand and then catch the broadcast on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.
