The 2020 GMC Sierra 2500HD can be equipped with your choice of two muscular engines:
- A 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8, paired with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission: 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque
- An all-new 6.6-liter direct-injected V8 with variable valve timing, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission: 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque

Towing and Hauling Capabilities
The 2020 Sierra 2500HD delivers rugged, powerful towing and hauling capabilities for any job you might need to do. When outfitted with the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 and fifth-wheel/gooseneck trailering equipment, the Sierra 2500HD can tow up to 18,510 pounds. Models with the 6.6-liter gas V8 can tow up to 16,900 pounds with fifth-wheel/gooseneck equipment. If you’re packing the bed full, you’ll have access to 69.6 cubic feet of cargo volume with the regular box and 83.5 cubic feet with the long box. With certain long box models, you can move a maximum payload of 3,979 pounds — or nearly 2 tons.
Exterior Features
The exterior of the 2020 Sierra 2500HD delivers tough features to make hard work easier. Every trim features cab-mounted cargo area lamps, at least 12 bed tie-downs, a locking tailgate, a side BedStep, and a CornerStep rear bumper to maximize the usefulness of the cargo box. Two innovative tailgate options are available: EZ lift and lower assist with power lock/release or the advanced new six-function GMC MultiPro Tailgate.
