Hyundai Palisade Secures NHTSA 5-Star Safety Rating
Lengthening its already impressive list of honors, the 2020 Hyundai Palisade now owns a 5-Star Safety Rating from the NHTSA.
In both its FWD and AWD configurations, the Palisade received the federal agency’s highest overall safety score, along with the highest score in both frontal and side crash testing.
The Palisade has also been recognized by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, garnering a 2020 Top Safety Pick award for models with optional LED headlamps.
To keep occupants safe during crashes, the three-row Palisade provides seven standard air bags. These include a pair of full-length side-curtain bags to ensure that third-row passengers are well-protected.
The Palisade also offers a wide range of active safety technologies, including many that are included on every trim level.

“Shoppers seek core safety features when buying a family SUV,” said Brian Latouf, Hyundai Motor North America’s chief safety officer. “This is why we use sensor fusion technology to make Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Lane Keeping Assist standard features in the Palisade. Occupant safety is always top of mind at Hyundai.”
In addition to these forward collision and lane guidance technologies, the Palisade also offers standard Driver Attention Warning, which alerts the person behind the wheel if his or her focus isn’t what it should be.
The Palisade’s available ultrasonic Rear Occupant Alert feature uses a sensor to alert the driver if children or pets are left behind in the rear seats. It’s also handy if a small child inadvertently locks a parent out of the vehicle. Optional Safe Exit Assist uses safety locks and visual and audible alerts to prevent dangerous situations for passengers getting out of the vehicle.
The Palisade’s many other available safety features include Blind-Spot and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Parking Distance Warning, and Highway Drive Assist. Most of these are included with the midlevel SEL trim, making the vehicle’s most advanced safety technologies readily accessible for most buyers.
However, even customers who don’t opt for all the extras can enjoy the peace of mind provided by the Palisade’s 5-Star crash-test rating from the NHTSA.
