2020 Toyota Highlander Teaser Looks Pretty Sweet
Toyota has launched a new, artistic teaser of the upcoming 2020 Highlander SUV that it will unveil at the 2019 New York International Auto Show five days from today.
The automaker commissioned Michael Murphy, a Brooklyn-based augmented reality artist, to create the teaser, which uses staggered, suspended printouts to create the illusion of a three-dimensional Highlander.
The process of creating the art installation took two months. Murphy first had to use design renderings of the car to create 3D printouts, then hand-paint each of them to match the car. The resulting 3D illusion is comprised of a total of 200 individual pieces (could this be a slight reference to the 2020 model year?)

Leading up to the show, the Highlander teaser will be projected on buildings around New York City. Toyota says it “captures the all-new Highlander’s powerful stance with a modern, sophisticated attitude” and that Murphy’s work “capitalizes on the new sculpted design elements” of the SUV.
Toyota provided no other details about the Highlander, a three-row SUV that will be entering its fourth generation. Since the current gen launched, traditional competitors have gotten roomier and new competitors like Volkswagen, Subaru, and Hyundai have all launched their own three-row SUVs. Toyota will be keen on showing everyone just how they should be made.
The all-new 2020 Toyota Highlander will be revealed on April 17 at 9:10 AM EDT in New York City. If you can’t be there in person, you can always catch the livestream at the website linked below.
