There’s nothing quite like Christmastime in Mississippi. Here’s a look at a few road-trip-worthy events to check out during the holiday season.

Christmas on the Water

This Biloxi tradition showcases both land and water parades, along with an arts and crafts exhibition, Santa Claus visits, and a fireworks show. Kids and adults alike will love the magic of the tree lighting ceremony. Plus, you can enjoy free hot chocolate with complimentary snacks handed out by old Saint Nick himself. There will even be live entertainment, including choirs, bands, and dancers.

Living Christmas

If you love Christmas music and visual pageantry, take a trip to Belhaven University in Jackson to see the Living Christmas performance. Since the tradition has been running strong since 1933, it’s no surprise that this show heralds the Christmas season for the entire Greater Jackson community. The show’s highlight, the Singing Christmas Tree, consists of a choir perched atop a wooden frame, allowing the singers to stand in a tree-like formation. The performance is punctuated by a soloist, who takes center stage as the star at the top of the tree. “If heaven had a school choir, this would be it,” proclaimed a writer from Southern Living magazine.

33 Days of Christmas

Why settle for 12 days of Christmas when you can have 33? Hop on the highway and head down to Gulfport to enjoy 33 Days of Christmas at the Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum. Both the outdoor gardens and indoor displays will be rife with holiday cheer. Best of all, admission is free.
