BMW Celebrates Centennial With New Race Livery
2016 is a big year for BMW, as it is celebrating its 100th birthday on March 7th. To begin the celebration, the motorsports arm of the automaker unveiled two new race liveries for this weekend’s 24 Hours of Daytona in Florida, one on car number 25 and one for car 100 (appropriately enough).
Bobby Rahal and his team will be behind the wheel of the newly outfitted BMW M6 GTLM race car bearing the number 25. The new look of this car is meant to make race fans remember four legendary BMW race cars. First is the 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL that raced to victory 40 years ago at 12 Hours of Sebring. Other design elements of the car pay tribute to the 1980 BMW M1, which was the first sport car designed and produced by BMW Motorsport GmbH. The BMW V12 LMR vehicle, which reigned over Le Mans in 1999, is represented as well. Finally, the 2011-12 BMW M3 GT that won every title possible in its class rounds out the list.
The number 100 car’s vinyl lattice looks pretty futuristic
The number 100 car is much simpler in its design, but no less stunning. Its white shell is overlaid with a reflective vinyl lattice. The 24 Hours of Daytona is part of the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and both vehicles will bear their new-yet-vintage looks for the rest of the season.
