Talk about a great reputation! For the fifth consecutive year, Kia earned the title of “number one non-luxury automotive brand” by J.D. Power in its 2019 U.S. Initial Quality Study. On top of that, Kia improved its score by two points over the previous year. The continued success of Kia in this study was partially thanks to four of its popular models, which received segment-topping ratings as well.

The annual IQS report measures the number of issues reported by consumers for 257 total vehicle models across 26 segments. This year, there were 76,256 respondents who described categories like engine and transmission performance, quality issues, and driving experience.

“Being ranked at the top of J.D. Power’s U.S. Initial Quality Study among all mass market brands once is a tremendous honor, but capturing this leadership position for five consecutive years unequivocally affirms Kia’s commitment to quality and the ownership experience,” said Michael Cole, chief operating officer and EVP of Kia Motors America. “With four segment winners – and three additional models ranking among the top three in their respective segments – Kia’s ‘Give It Everything’ brand philosophy has clearly yielded a world-class model lineup.”

The four Kia models that were named the best in their segments included the: Forte (Compact Car), Sedona (Minivan), Sportage (Small SUV), and Rio (Small Car). The Forte and Rio were previously recognized by the IIHS this year, with the Forte earning the coveted Top Safety Pick+ rating and the Rio acquiring the Top Safety Pick rating. On top of that, the Forte also won the 2019 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Award for “Best Small Car.”
