We’ve known for some time now that Ford intends to bring a F-150 Hybrid to market within the next couple of years. In fact, Ford went as far as to confirm last fall that production is set to kick off at its Rouge Complex in 2020. Now, it appears that plans are already in the works to launch a fully electric Ford F-150 somewhere down the line.
Ford Motor Company Executive Vice President and President of Global Markets Jim Farley was a guest speaker at the Deutsche Bank Global Automotive Conference this week, where he revealed Ford’s plans to make a battery-electric Ford F-Series truck.

“We’re going to be electrifying the F-Series — battery electric and hybrid,” Farley said on Wednesday. The move ostensibly makes the F-Series “futureproof,” and with plans to launch the F-150 BEV within a similar window as the F-150 Hybrid, it would likely help Ford maintain its mantle as the first name in all things pickup trucks.
Given Ford’s investment in the F-Series and the returns it generates, which Farley correctly dubbed a “global juggernaut,” the decision to offer the F-150 as an electric vehicle seems as solid a bet as any.
“Ninety-percent of our capital now is allocated toward trucks and utilities,” Farley said. “We have the F-Series, the world and America’s best-selling truck. More than a million units were sold last year. F-Series core strength at the end of the day is: There’s a truck for every customer and we know those customers really, really well. From the F-150 all the way to the F-750. They all matter to us.”
Farley also confirmed that the next-generation Super Duty will be launching in 2019 and that Ford will be “showing it to everyone in a few weeks.”
