The Ford Ranger earns the J.D. Power 2020 IQS Award for midsize pickups

The new Ranger just keeps racking up the accolades. The recently revived Ford Ranger earned the highest ranking for the midsize pickup class in the J.D. Power 2020 Initial Quality Study, besting the Chevrolet Colorado and Honda Ridgeline for the award. Also recently named the winner of Cars.com’s 2020 American-Made Index, the Ranger was one of three Ford vehicles to earn top segment rankings in the annual IQS.

This year’s J.D. Power Initial Quality Study weighs the responses of owners of new 2020 model-year vehicles. Its objective is to determine how many issues new vehicles face within the first 90 days of ownership. Those figures are broken down into a score of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), and the vehicle in each segment with the lowest score is considered the highest-ranking choice.
Mustang, Super Duty, Michigan Assembly earn awards
Michigan Assembly Plan wins Plant Assembly Line Quality Award

In addition to the Ranger, the 2020 Ford Mustang and 2020 Ford Super Duty earned top rankings from J.D. Power for initial quality. The Mustang, the world’s bestselling sports car in 2019, was the only vehicle to earn a ranking in the midsize sporty car segment. The new Ford Super Duty outworked the Chevrolet Silverado HD for the No. 1 spot among large heavy-duty pickups.
In addition to its segment accolade, the 2020 Ford Ranger earned Ford a silver ranking in the J.D. Power Plant Assembly Line Quality Awards. Ford builds the Ranger at its Michigan Assembly Plant, where it is also underway on production of the all-new Ford Bronco. MAP was one of only two American assembly plants to earn a Plant Assembly Line Quality Award in 2020.
Several other Ford Motor Company vehicles came close to taking top honors in their segments. The Ford Fusion ranked No. 2 among midsize cars, the Ford F-150 ranked third among large light-duty pickups, the Lincoln MKZ rated second among luxury midsize cars, the Lincoln Nautilus was second among midsize premium SUVs, and the Lincoln Navigator finished second in the large premium SUV segment.
