Ford is attempting to counter rising fuel costs with a direct financial incentive for buyers. In Australia, the automaker now offers a prepaid fuel card worth 4,000 Australian dollars with the purchase of certain models, aiming to maintain interest in gasoline-powered vehicles.
This initiative comes as fuel prices continue to rise globally, affecting purchasing behavior and raising concerns about running costs. In Australia, the situation is marked by both higher prices and occasional shortages, creating additional pressure on consumers.
Fuel Prices Reshaping Buying Decisions
Fuel prices in Australia have increased sharply, moving from an average of 1.60 dollars per liter to 2.23 dollars, as reported by Automobile Magazine. This represents a rise of around 40 percent compared to levels observed before the conflict in the Middle East.
The situation has been compounded by fears of shortages, which have triggered waves of panic buying. These behaviors have contributed to both supply tensions and further price increases.
In this environment, fuel costs have become a central concern for both private users and professionals, influencing vehicle purchasing decisions more than before.
A Combined Strategy of Discounts and Incentives
Ford’s fuel card offer is part of a broader effort to sustain sales. The company has also reduced prices on several Ranger versions, with some models seeing cuts of nearly 20,000 Australian dollars.
Additional incentives target specific customer segments. Farmers, for example, can benefit from a 1,000 Australian dollar discount on Ranger, Ranger Super Duty, and Ranger Hybrid versions. These measures aim to support key users who rely heavily on such vehicles.
Despite the availability of a plug-in hybrid version of the Ranger, Ford continues to promote its conventional models, which remain central to its lineup in Australia.
Strict Conditions for a Limited-Time Offer
The fuel card incentive applies only to Ranger and Everest models that are currently in stock. The program began on April 1 and will end once available inventory is sold out.
Customers must request the prepaid card within three months of purchasing their vehicle. Once issued, it can be used at more than 22,000 locations nationwide and remains valid for three years.
The card is provided in digital format only and requires a smartphone compatible with Apple Pay or Google Pay. Customers must also provide a mobile number and email address to complete the process, with delivery of the card taking up to two weeks.
Through this initiative, Ford is adapting to a market where fuel costs play an increasingly decisive role, while continuing to promote models that remain widely used despite their consumption.
