Hyundai’s announcement comes at a time when performance car pricing has trended upward, making any relatively affordable option stand out. The TCR Edition builds on the existing Elantra N formula, adding visual and mechanical enhancements while maintaining the same power output.

The model also highlights Hyundai’s continued presence in touring car racing, translating elements from its competition vehicles into a limited-production road car. The TCR Edition serves more as a celebratory model than a homologation requirement.

Pricing Undercuts Established Performance Rivals

The 2026 Elantra N TCR Edition starts at $40,495 with a six-speed manual transmission, including a $1,245 destination charge. Opting for the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic raises the price to $41,995. According to The Drive, choosing the manual version offers a lower entry point, reinforcing Hyundai’s value positioning.

Despite costing $4,150 more than the standard Elantra N, the TCR Edition remains significantly cheaper than key competitors. It is priced $7,595 below the Honda Civic Type R and about $1,000 less than the Toyota GR Corolla, both of which have seen price increases. The model also comes in $5,745 under the Subaru WRX tS, even after that vehicle’s recent price adjustment.

Performance Unchanged, But Still Competitive

Under the hood, the TCR Edition retains the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine found in the standard Elantra N. Output remains at 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque. While this figure trails some rivals, the difference does not place the car at a disadvantage within its segment.

The powertrain may not lead the class in raw numbers, but it remains competitive given the car’s lower price point. Hyundai has chosen to focus improvements elsewhere rather than increasing output for this edition.

Track-Inspired Upgrades And Limited Production

The TCR Edition introduces several distinctive components derived from Hyundai’s touring car program. These include a swan-neck rear wing inspired by the Elantra N TCR race car, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, and a braking system featuring four-piston monobloc calipers and two-piece front rotors.

Interior updates include Alcantara trim on the steering wheel, shifter, and armrest, along with Performance Blue seatbelts and exclusive badging. The exterior is limited to Performance Blue paint.

Hyundai has confirmed that the TCR Edition will be produced in limited numbers, though exact figures have not been disclosed. The model effectively acts as a “reverse homologation” car, celebrating Hyundai’s success in the TCR class, including six consecutive manufacturers’ championships in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series.

The release also serves as a reminder of the Elantra N’s standing in the performance market, particularly following its 2024 refresh, which improved both design and functionality.
