2019 Honda Clarity Wins Cars.com 2019 Eco-Friendly Award
Just in time to punctuate Earth Day, the 2019 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid was named the winner of the Cars.com 2019 Eco-Friendly Award thanks to its total driving range of 340 miles and EPA-estimated electric-only range of 47 miles.
Currently the top-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in America, the Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid is one of three electrified midsize five-passenger sedans, including the Clarity Electric and the Clarity Fuel Cell. All three have been the recipient of many awards since their launch for their new take on electrified mobility, offering customers their choice of eco-friendly powertrain without changing anything else about the car.
“The Clarity is a rare plug-in hybrid that delivers a good balance of the basics: good electric-only range, decent gas mileage after the charge is depleted and no onerous trade-offs,” Joe Wiesenfelder wrote for Cars.com. The Clarity had 23 other plug-in hybrid models on the market to compete with as well as other eco-friendly vehicles like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV.

Next in line, the 2019 Honda Civic EX was named runner-up in the Cars.com 2019 Eco-Friendly Award and was praised for its exceptionally efficient 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.
Wiesenfelder noted that while American consumers have been hesitant to pull the trigger on plug-in hybrids, the Clarity is an excellent option for those who want to get their feet wet without risk and with practically no trade-offs.
“One of the biggest problems is that consumers don’t recognize how little range they truly need on a daily basis when charging overnight at home rather than fueling publicly,” he said. “As a result, EV models with ranges of less than 200 miles — the more affordable options — get overlooked…the high premium you pay for long electric ranges may be a waste.”
With 47 miles of pure electric range and good gas mileage besides, the 2019 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid has more than enough range for the average commuter to never have to visit a gas station again.
