XT4 Lifts Cadillac Sales in Second Quarter

Thanks in large part to solid sales for the new 2019 XT4 crossover, Cadillac earned a slight increase in sales for the second quarter of the year.
The luxury auto brand sold 39,739 vehicles for the quarter, a 1.3 percent increase over the same stretch in 2018. Over the first two quarters of 2019, Cadillac sold 75,734 vehicles, down 0.3 percent from the first half of 2018.

SUVs and crossovers lead the way
SUVs and crossovers have grown to dominate Cadillac sales, and 2019’s second quarter was no exception. Nearly 75 percent of Cadillacs sold over this period came from those segments. The XT4 posted solid numbers with 7,080 units sold. Cadillac has sold at least 7,000 XT4s in each of the model’s first three full quarters of availability. The brand’s bestselling vehicle, the XT5, sold 13,118 models for the quarter, representing a sharp 23 percent decline. Also experiencing a decline was the full-size Escalade, which was down 2.3 percent with 9,432 sold.
In its first partial quarter of availability, the new XT6 three-row crossover sold 74 models — but expect that number to improve dramatically in the third quarter.
Sedans continue their slump
As Cadillac culls its sedan lineup, sales from that segment continue to fall. The biggest bright spot was the discontinued XTS, which sold 5,359 units for a hefty 46.2 percent increase. All other sedan models were down. The discontinued ATS fell 90.2 percent with just 371 sold; the CT6 was down 23.3 percent with 1,862 sold; and the discontinued CTS dropped 7.5 percent with 2,443 sold. In upcoming months, Cadillac is hoping to shore up its sedan sales with the new CT4 and CT5.
