Movies
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)
Relive the magical adventures of the beloved flying car in this classic musical. And be sure to read The News Wheel’s in-depth feature on the film. (Available 1/1 on Netflix)
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
Whether you’re feasting your eyes on this film’s classic 1961 Ferrari GT California or hiding them in horror at the car’s ultimate fate, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is a comedy classic worth catching up with. (Available 1/1 on Netflix)
The French Connection (1971)
Along with being a shining example of gritty ’70s crime cinema, The French Connection boasts one of film’s most iconic car chases. (Available 1/1 on Hulu)
Ghost Rider (2007)
This movie, about a motorcycle stunt rider who sells his soul to the devil and transforms into a fiery-skulled avenger (lower case), isn’t exactly one of Marvel’s better efforts. But it’s worth a watch if you enjoy seeing Nicolas Cage battle demons as he chews on the CGI-heavy scenery. (Available 1/1 on Netflix)
Green Book (2018)
In this Best Picture Oscar winner, a black musician travels the segregation-era U.S. in a Cadillac DeVille and builds a connection with his white driver. Once you’ve watched the movie, you’ll also want to learn about the real Green Book. (Available 1/11 on Hulu with a Showtime premium add-on)
The Hitcher (1986)
Picking up strangers on lonely roads generally isn’t a great idea, and it’s definitely a bad move in this gory slasher flick, which stars Rutger Hauer as a mysterious — and ultra-homicidal — hitchhiker. (Available 1/1 on HBO Now)

TV Shows
The Detour: Season 4
The Detour began its run on TBS as a dark, raunchy comedy about a family road trip gone awry. Now, in the show’s fourth and final season, the show’s scope widens as the Parkers trot the globe on a wild and disaster-prone search for a missing family member. (Available 1/20 on Hulu)
Mater’s Tall Tales
This series of short animated films from Pixar features Mater of Cars fame spinning far-fetched stories about his adventures with Lightning McQueen. Episodes available for January include “El Materdor,” “Moon Mater,” “Rescue Squad Mater,” “Time Travel Mater,” “Tokyo Mater,” and “Unidentified Flying Mater.” (Available 1/1 on Disney Plus)
