Lincoln’s new 2020 Aviator continues to garner high marks in the press. Recently, award-winning journalist Jil McIntosh expressed her love once again for the Lincoln Aviator in a review for Autotrader Canada. Last September, McIntosh hailed the three-row SUV as “very quiet and coddling” in a review for Driving. Six months later, her opinion hasn’t much changed.

In her Autotrader Canada review, McIntosh suggests that the new Lincoln Aviator is a viable competitor to higher-end Japanese and European luxury brands: “With some careful selection of the various options and packages, the Aviator might ultimately be the one that flies.” As far as options are concerned, she rates the Aviator an eight out of 10 and name-drops the Convenience Package that adds Phone As A Key and head-up display technologies.

Lincoln Aviator earns highest scores for power, style

The categories in which McIntosh awards the Aviator its highest scores are styling, safety, quality, and powertrain. In each of these areas, the Aviator earns a nine out of 10. Bolstering these qualities to near perfection are options like soft-close doors, illuminated Lincoln star emblem for the signature grille, Lincoln Co-Pilot360 Plus, and the standard twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. Of the Aviator’s power, she suggests that the SUV is sneaky in that it’s not particularly quick to accelerate but really shows off its power at higher speeds.

In the areas of practicality, features, fuel economy, and drivability, the Aviator scores an impressive eight out of 10. Helping the latter was the Dynamic Handling Package, included on McIntosh’s tester, which offers ride-enhancing features like Adaptive Suspension with Road Preview. McIntosh also gave the Aviator high marks for its impressive towing capability, ample cargo space, and the fact that it uses 87-octane rather than premium fuel.

All in all, the Aviator earned a 7.7 out of 10, right in line with the score it earned from the Globe and Mail last August. The Aviator is available in Canada in the Reserve and Grand Touring trims, both with standard all-wheel drive.
