Imagine driving 33 miles per hour over the posted speed limit and seeing flashing red and blue lights in your rear-view. You’d probably start flipping out, right? And for good reason! Driving that fast in Michigan, for example, would net you four points on your license for driving 16 mph or more over the legal speed limit, and possibly even 6 points for reckless driving.

However, it turns out that if you’re Doc Brown and Marty McFly driving a DeLorean 88 mph in a 55 mph zone, the Michigan State Police will merely give you a verbal warning. Gee, it’d be nice to get that kind of treatment next time you’re out going a bit too fast, wouldn’t it?

To be fair, it’s a very spirited attempt, but the Michigan State Police seem to be forgetting one very important thing: if Marty and Doc were indeed going 88 mph in the DeLorean, they’d have no need to stop. Because they’d already be heading to the future…which, conveniently, would be today.
