Actor Zac Efron Shows Off His 1965 Ford Mustang Via Instagram
History buffs are sure to know that the first Ford Mustang left the assembly line on March 9, 1964, so what better way to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the beloved American pony car than to spotlight actor Zac Efron’s 1965 Mustang?
It seems like Efron has a thing for restoring classic muscle cars, but that’s only when he isn’t out filming hit movies like Dirty Grandpa or Neighbors. Although it took two years to complete the work on his Grandpa’s ’65 Mustang, Efron seemed humbled by the fact he could drive his grandpa’s car again. The movie star recently shared a handful of pictures of the vehicle via Instagram.

Efron didn’t release any further details about what specific work was done to the car, but his old-school Mustang convertible does have a shiny grey exterior paint job, silver wheels, and a leather interior.
According to the site Classic Mustang, the standard 1965 Mustang convertible came with a price tag of $2,557 upon its initial release. In contrast, the 2016 Mustang V6 convertible carries a starting MSRP of $30,045.
The 1965 model was available with a number of engine options, including a V8 motor rated at 271 horsepower. That powerful engine finally gave the Mustang the type of performance to match its attractive design. The previous 1964 ½ model was offered with a V6 engine good for 101 horsepower.
To get the most out his car, it would have probably been best to equip a brand new engine into his Mustang, but restoring one of the ’65 Mustang’s original engine options could explain why it took two years to complete the work on his grandpa’s pony car.
Other rides included in Efron’s car collection include an Audi S5 and Audi S6, but those just don’t have the same history and personal story behind them as his Mustang.
