August Sales Increase for Honda Thanks to Refreshed 2019 Pilot
August proved to be a successful month for Honda in America, with overall sales up 1.3 percent. While passenger vehicle production was at a bit of a standstill due to supply constraints, the light truck segment absolutely crushed it at an increase of 18.9 percent. In this top-selling segment is the newly refreshed 2019 Pilot, which sold 15,332 units — which was a whopping 60 percent sales increase.
Of course, the segment-leading Odyssey is not to be ignored. The No. 1 retail-selling minivan gained 13.5 percent on sales of 9,887 units last month. Rounding out the light truck segment is the hot-selling CR-V, which delivered 34,610 units, which was an increase of 11.8 percent. With this trend, the CR-V is set to mark a new annual sales record.
For the second straight month, electrified vehicle sales reached 5,000 units, with the Insight, Clarity Plug-In Hybrid, and incredibly popular Accord Hybrid setting a best-ever month.
“Leveraging our manufacturing flexibility to increase our light truck supply continues to pay off for us,” said Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice president of the American Honda Automobile Division. “For Honda, Pilot benefited from increased light truck production and recorded a 60 percent increase in year-over-year sales.”
It’s no surprise that these vehicles are selling like hotcakes at dealerships nationwide. The Honda Pilot has an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating to be proud of, and with the new refresh, is poised to be one of America’s fastest growing SUVs. Meanwhile, the awards continue to roll in for the 2018 North American Car of the Year — the 2018 Honda Accord — which recently earned the J.D. Power APEAL award for midsize cars.
