BMW Unveils the BMW Concept Z4 Roadster
The Z4 Roadster concept, revealed during Monterey Car Week, was joined by BMW's 8 Series concept
BMW vehicles are known as “The Ultimate Driving Machine.” Still, after a string of SUV and crossover vehicle introductions for the BMW brand, Bimmer fans have started to become concerned about whether BMW has abandoned its performance vehicle roots.
Given BMW’s latest set of concept vehicles, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Indeed, BMW just revealed the concept for its new BMW Z4 Roadster.
The Z4 Roadster concept made its official debut earlier today at BMW’s annual Monterey Car Week Press Conference. During the event, BMW showcased several different vehicle concepts based on models that are currently in the works.
The newest of these concepts was the successor of the current Z4. Departing slightly from the modern BMW styling that has come to define the entire brand, the BMW Concept Z4 Roadster borrows many design cues from classic roadster models.
The BMW Z4 concept possesses several roadster signatures, like a long wheelbase, a compact rear, and a low-slung silhouette. Its front fascia is also more dynamic and angular than most modern Bimmers.
The interior is just as exotic as the exterior. In fact, the exterior color of the vehicle actually blends with the cabin, creating a dual-hued dashboard.
Furthermore, the cabin is designed to create a sportier drive for any auto enthusiast behind the wheel. In order to achieve this, BMW moved the driver’s seat to sit closer to the center of the vehicle.
The conceptual Z4 Roadster wasn’t the only BMW performance model on display during the event. BMW also showcased the BMW Concept 8 Series model, first revealed earlier this year at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
Much like the Z4, the 8 Series concept is defined by a dynamic and streamlined look. It’s a preview of what drivers can expect from the upcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe, set to be released next year. With the release of the 8 Series Coupe, the “8 Series” nameplate returns to the BMW lineup after an 18-year absence.
“The number 8 and cars like the Z8 Roadster and i8 have represented the pinnacle of sports performance and exclusivity at BMW,” explained Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management at BMW AG . “The forthcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand. This will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury-car offering and will raise the benchmark for coupes in the segment. In the process, we will strengthen our claim to leadership in the luxury class.”
If the BMW Z4 Roadster and BMW 8 Series concept vehicles are truly windows into what drivers can expect from the luxury brand, then fans of both BMW and performance vehicles in general have a lot to look forward to.
