Any thriving business prioritizes mainstream marketing trends while heeding the more marginal ones. The same is true of companies in the oil industry, like Chevron. Per Forbes, Chevron is partnering with EVgo to begin offering EV charging stations to drivers in California.

About the collaboration

Chevron general manager of company-owned and operated motor fuel stations Alice Flesher expressed pride at the new partnership with EVgo. “While gasoline and diesel remain an important part of California’s transportation energy mix, we are always exploring how to evolve our offering.” She also articulated that the new charging stations would help maintain Chevron’s reputation as the preferred brand for West Coast vehicle owners.

More about the EVgo-Chevron chargers

Per Forbes, the new chargers have a capacity of 50-100 kilowatts. EV owners can find more than a dozen of these new stations in the Venice, Menlo Park, Aliso Viejo, and Manhattan Beach areas. Additionally, Chevron plans to unroll more stations in the next few months.

Shifts in the oil industry

Chevron isn’t the only company in the industry that is turning its gaze toward the emerging EV-charging market. According to Forbes, BP is investing $5 million in FreeWire Technologies, an entity that specializes in rapid-charging EV systems. Additionally, Shell is partnering with IONITY and a few mainstream automakers to establish a European high-power charging infrastructure

As more consumers take advantage of the declining prices of EVs, other companies in the oil industry would do well to follow Chevron’s lead in reimagining their offerings and investments. Though it might be a while before the U.S. phases out combustion-engine vehicles, there’s no doubt that hybrid and pure-electric models are growing in popularity.
