If there’s any one true fact that parents understand, it’s that those darn kids sure do grow up fast. Accord to a scientific study out of Australia, quickly growing kids only grow more quickly in the summer because of a reduced amount of stress, meaning that they’re even bigger when it’s time to take them back to school.
To account for this, Ford has engineered its new Focus to offer more space for growing kids. The next-generation Focus offers class-leading rear knee-room by providing 1.97 additional inches over the previous-gen Focus, and an additional 2.4 inches of rear shoulder room. While this is perhaps not enough to completely obliterate backseat scrapping and squirming, it ought to prove helpful to parents getting back in the school-time swing.

“We didn’t settle for just making the rear of our all-new Focus more spacious — we also wanted it to feel more open and roomy for passengers big and small,” said Glen Goold, Ford Focus chief program engineer. “The side windows now stretch further rearwards so that passengers have an unrestricted view out, and the available panorama roof floods the interior with light for an airy feel.”
If you’re a parent in America who’s reading this right now and thinking wow, that sounds great! Where can I get this wonderful vehicle, we’ve got some bad news. Not only is Ford not bringing the next-generation Focus sedan and hatchback to the United States, but it has now confirmed that the Focus Active crossover won’t be making the leap across the pond either.
