First Production Toyota Supra Goes on Sale for $2.1 Million at Auction
Just over a month ago, we wondered how much someone would be willing to pay for the first new-generation Toyota Supra. The answer turned out to be quite a bit higher than we anticipated.
The first production 2020 Toyota GR Supra, VIN number 20201, was auctioned for charity on Saturday evening for a whopping $2.1 million at the 48th annual Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“We did the first production 2020 GR Supra justice tonight at Barrett-Jackson,” said Bob Carter, Toyota Motor North America’s executive VP of sales. “When Toyota launches a vehicle of this caliber, you only get one chance to do it right.”
“After 20 years, this marks the return of a legend. Sportscar enthusiasts have been dreaming to slide behind the wheel of an all-new Supra — and we’re happy to be a part of turning that dream into a reality.”

All of the proceeds will go to benefit the American Heart Association and Bob Woodruff Foundation. Though Toyota did not reveal the identity of the winner, it only took a few seconds scouring YouTube videos of the auction to discover it: John Staluppi, owner of a range of Toyota and Honda dealerships across the United States. He sold a rare 1950s car collection in 2012 for $11.5 million and used to own an $80 million yacht named Spectre.
In addition to the unique car, Staluppi will also receive a VIP track day experience, including a personalized racing suit and a chance to do hot laps with Michael Waltrip at the Toyota Owners 400 NASCAR round at Richmond Raceway.
