Ford Motor Company and its joint ventures in China reported total sales of 69,503 vehicles in April, down 26% year-over-year from its sales in April the previous year. Changan Ford Automobile (CAF) sales totaled 40,703 vehicles, down 35% year-over-year; Jiangling Motor Corporation (JMC) sales were down 6% at 23,903 vehicles delivered; Lincoln sales were down 14% year-over-year at 3,553 vehicles delivered; and import sales fell 18% at 1,344 vehicles delivered.

Though Lincoln sales were down in April, the Lincoln Continental and Navigator put forth big increases, with the former growing 16% from April 2017 and the latter growing 32%. Through April, sales of the Continental are up 51% and sales of the Navigator are up 66%. The Lincoln MKX also continues to perform well for the luxury brand, with sales increasing 6% in April and up 18% through the first four months of the year.

Highlights were otherwise few and far between for Ford. Every vehicle in CAF’s current lineup saw double-digit year-over-year declines, and JMC only saw a significant jump in JMC Teshun sales and a moderate increase in Ford Everest sales. Imports were down save for the F-150 Raptor, which increased 34% year-over-year.

April was an otherwise notable month for Ford in China with the reveal of its next-generation Focus, Escort, and Ranger Wildtrak. It was also announced that Lincoln will be launching the new Aviator, Nautilus, and MKC in China as part of Ford’s plan to launch 50 new products in China by 2025.

“We achieved an important milestone in our ‘In China, For China’ strategy in April.” said Peter Fleet, president, Ford Asia Pacific and chairman and CEO, Ford China, “We revealed our new range of next generation midsize cars as part of our China 2025 Plan. These vehicles were all developed with the specific needs and wants of Chinese consumers in mind and will all be manufactured locally by Changan Ford.”
