Ford Motor Company saw a positive change in its fortunes in May thanks to 0.7 percent year-over-year sales growth and a total of 242,824 vehicles delivered. Retail sales were up 3.5 percent at 163,796 vehicles, and average transaction prices were around $3,400 higher than the industry average at $35,800 per vehicle. Ford delivered 79,028 fleet sales, a 4.6 percent year-over-year decrease that it attributes to order timing. Ford brand sales were up 1 percent at 233,069 vehicles delivered. On all fronts, the Ford F-Series delivered big.
“F-Series didn’t miss a beat last month,” Said Ford Vice President of U.S. Marketing, Sales, and Service Mark LaNeve. “With sales up 11 percent in May and 6 percent year-to-date, F-Series is off to its best start since 2000 and is on track to deliver its ninth consecutive year gain.”
Ford trucks saw a 9.4 percent increase in May thanks to a big boost from the F-Series and its sales total of 84,639 trucks. The Transit and Transit Connect were also major contributors with respective growth of 12.4 percent and 3.3 percent.
Ford-brand SUVs were down 0.7 percent in May, but the EcoSport continued to deliver with sales totaling 5,481 vehicles. Thus far, EcoSport sales total 16,854 units. Through May, Ford-brand SUV sales are down 2.7 percent at 325,616 vehicles delivered.
Following the announcement that the Fiesta, Fusion, Taurus, and C-MAX are all being discontinued, Ford saw its brand car sales plummet 11.7 percent at 50,058 vehicles delivered. The Fiesta, however, delivered 22.2 percent growth with 5,110 vehicles sold. Fiesta is thus far stagnant from 2017, but every other car offering in Ford’s lineup — save the GT supercar — is down year-to-date.
Lincoln saw its sales decline 5.2 percent in May with 9,755 vehicles delivered. Sales of the Navigator were strong, however, rising 122.4 percent year-over-year.
Through May, Ford brand sales are down 1.9 percent in the United States at 1,006,321 vehicles. Ford Motor Company sales are down 2.4 percent at 1,047,056 vehicles.
