Ford closed 2017 with sales totaling 1,192,635 vehicles in China, down 6% from 2016’s record sales total. The year-on-year downturn was created by a 14% loss in sales volume by Changan Ford Automobile (CAF), which closed the years with deliveries totaling 826,740 vehicles. Jiangling Motor Corporation (JMC) sales on the other hand were up 11% at 292,942 vehicles delivered; Lincoln sales leapt 66% with a record total of 54,124 vehicles delivered; and import sales increased 7% at 18,819 vehicles delivered.

“While the passenger vehicle segment experienced challenges in first half of the year, the strong sales performance of Ford Escort and Mondeo in second half contributed to the company selling close to 1.2 million vehicles in China in 2017,” said Ford China Chairman and CEO Jason Luo. “Looking forward, we recently announced Ford’s China 2025 plan to further accelerate our growth. In 2018, we will build our success on providing customers in China with our best products, services, and mobility solutions.”

The Escort and Mondeo came up big once more in December, with the former achieving its best sales month ever at 42,064 vehicles delivered and the latter setting a December record at 14,773 vehicles delivered. For the full year, only the Mondeo posted growth for CAF with sales rising 2% to 110,412 vehicles.

Despite a down December, JMC delivered full-year growth thanks to products like the Tourneo (191% growth at 5,137 vehicles), Yusheng S330 (64% growth at 17,998 vehicles), JMC Pick-Up (16% growth at 69,461 vehicles), and JMC Light Truck (5% growth at 101,877 vehicles).

Lincoln saw its sales rise 41% in December, pushing its full-year sales to 54,124 vehicles delivered and setting yet another record for growth. Big for Lincoln in 2018 was the new Continental, whose sales totaled 10,501 vehicles at year’s end.

The Ford Mustang provided another great year of sales, with deliveries reaching a record of 4,225 vehicles, up 35% year-over-year. Another Ford Performance product, the F-150 Raptor, performed solidly in its first year on the market with a total of 798 deliveries.
