Ford Sets Guinness World Record With One Billboard Inside Madrid, Spain
Arguably, as a compact SUV, the trait for which the Ford EcoSport is best known is being small. This small fact (pun intended? Maybe; it just kind of happened) did not stop Ford from using it as the focal point for the Guinness World Record largest billboard.
The EcoSport is front and center on a billboard that measures 5,265 square meters (56,672 cubic feet) on the Edificio España in the heart of Madrid. It defeated the previous record-holder, a billboard not outside of Ebbing, Missouri, but rather in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, by 241.9 square meters (2,604 cubic feet).

“Our Guinness World Records title for the Largest billboard demonstrates the creativity that drives our company,” said Elena Burguete, director of Marketing, Ford Spain. “Ford’s message is ‘Go Further,’ and that’s what we aimed to do with our campaign for the launch of the new EcoSport. It’s a great way to deliver the message ‘Life is out there, are you?’ to as many people as possible, right in the heart of Madrid.”
The Ford EcoSport is a key part of Ford’s crossover strategy in Europe, with the latest model offered in an all-new EcoSport ST-Line variant and with desirable features such as Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, EcoBlue diesel engine option, and SYNC 3 connectivity.
Ford also recently launched the EcoSport in the United States, where it hopes the SUV will catch on with consumers hungry for crossovers. Despite its size, chances are good that the billboard in Madrid is not visible from America—don’t let Sarah Palin tell you otherwise; she doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
