Ford took to Twitter on Thursday morning to give the world its first glimpse of the Ford Escape, which debuts in full on April 2. In the tweet, which features an embedded video that shows snatches of the Escape’s grille and rear, Ford promises that it will offer “Best-ever Escape performance, unrivaled flexibility, and smart new technology.” So, about that first bit … a Ford Escape ST, maybe?
Ford also released a separate teaser video for the next-gen Escape’s European equivalent, the Kuga, which gives glimpse of sharp LED headlights and a rotary shifter. Ford will debut the Kuga at a Go Further event in Amsterdam on April 2, coinciding with the reveal of the Escape.
More Ford SUVs: Some of the best stuff about the 2019 Ford Edge
The next-generation Ford Escape is likely to be closer in presentation to the Focus Active, which was launched in Europe last year and set for the U.S. market before being stymied by a trade war. A plug-in hybrid variant is almost a certainty, and the mention of best-ever performance certainly raises the possibility of expanding the ST performance SUV lineup to include the Escape. The mention of new technology likely means the inclusion of Ford Co-Pilot360 as standard equipment as well as new, as-yet-unrevealed technologies.
You can expect to see more of the 2020 Ford Escape this Tuesday after it makes its world premiere. It would likely arrive sometime in the fall or winter following the launch of the 2020 Ford Explorer.
