GM Makes Achievers’ 50 Most Engaged Workplaces List
Achiever has ranked GM on its 50 Most Engaged Workplaces™ Awards list for 2018. Interestingly enough, GM was the only OEM featured on the list.
Award criteria
Per the Achiever’s website, the award “recognize[s] top employers that display leadership and innovation in engaging their workplaces.” The organization defines both an engaged workplace and an engaged employee. It evaluates companies for the award list based on eight qualities: communication, culture, leadership, rewards and recognition, vision and values, accountability and performance, corporate social responsibility, and professional and personal growth.
It also evaluates the staff at the corporations it is considering for the award. Per Achievers, an engaged employee has the following three attributes: “inspired and often inspires others,” “fully involved in and enthusiastic about their work,” and “passionate and committed every day.”
Signs of a positive workplace
GM met the thorough requirements of the award. A brief glimpse at the company’s recent headlines reveals just some of the ways that GM meets Achiever’s Eight Elements of Employee Engagement™. In particular, the company has shown a solid track record for performance, leadership, vision, and inter-staff communication. CEO Marry Barra has successfully spearheaded the corporation’s emphasis on electric, helping the company materialize this ambition by breaking it into smaller achievements. It has expanded its battery lab and will start mass-producing the self-driving Cruise AV next year. GM also has a Speak Up for Safety policy, which encourages and rewards staff for suggesting product improvements and addressing customer concerns.
We commend GM for this new accolade as it continues to invest in its employees while pursuing its corporate goals.
