Impressive Increase of Optima Purchases Boosts June Kia Sales
Across the market, vehicle sales tend to struggle in the middle of the year, as many consumers are trying to wait it out for the next model year to drop with exciting updates and deals. At the same time, some are waiting for the current model year prices to drop. However, Kia hasn’t been struggling at all, with the Korean automaker seeing a 3.8 percent year-to-date sales increase in June.

Many of Kia’s models saw significant increases year-over-year, including the Rio, K900, and the Sportage. However, the shining star for Kia this month was the 2019 Optima. From May to June, Optima sales increased by almost 34 percent. Year-to-date sales were also up for the Kia Optima, having sold 2,467 more models last month than June of last year.
Although Telluride sales dipped just slightly by 4 percent in June, overall sales for the award-winning SUV from Kia have been steady since it became available in February of this year.
“Kia outpaced the industry throughout the first half thanks in part to overwhelming demand for the all-new Telluride,” said Bill Peffer, vice president of sales operations for Kia Motors America. “Kia is carrying a lot of momentum into the third quarter and we are confident our upward trajectory will continue through the remainder of the year.”

Other Kia models that saw solid sales in June were the Kia Forte, which was named 2019 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice for “Best Small Car,” and the Soul, which was just awarded a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the IIHS.
