It should come as no surprise that the newly designed 2020 Kia Soul already has an award to put on its shelf. The 2019 iteration of the quirky Kia vehicle was named the “Best Compact Car for the Money” by U.S. News & World Report, and it received the Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. But this year, the 2020 Soul went one step further when it came to safety, earning the highly coveted Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.

To earn the much-sought-after top safety rating from the IIHS, a vehicle must receive “Good” ratings in the following crashworthiness tests: side, roof strength, head restraint, moderate overlap front, driver-side overlap front, and passenger-side small overlap front. It must also receive an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention and a “Good” headlight rating.

The 2020 Soul earned “Good” ratings for all of the crashworthiness tests as well as on the headlight rating (when equipped with LED projector headlights) and a “Superior” rating for its optional front crash prevention systems, including the incredibly helpful Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.

“Sales have shown that the newly designed Soul is hitting all the right marks with car shoppers,” said Michael Cole, chief operating officer and EVP of Kia Motors America. “The Soul’s unmatched style, driving refinement, and invigorating technology are key factors that have drawn consumers to Kia’s urban car, and this latest safety award is yet another reason the Soul should be considered a top contender in the compact car segment.”
