The Nissan Micra Cup is still running strong up in Canada, with this past weekend seeing racers take to the track at Circuit Mont-Tremblant. The field ran two races, and both of them had the same victor: First-time winner Jesse Lazare.

Besides Jesse Lazare’s first times on the top of the Nissan Micra Cup podium, the series celebrated another first with Valerie Limoges becoming the first woman in the series to earn the pole position. She raced her Micra S to the spot, beating second-place driver Kevin King by two-tenths of a second.

To win the Saturday race, Lazare had to move up from his qualifying spot at tenth place. He managed to pass current leader Frederic Bernier right before the race hit the halfway point and kept his spot all the way to the checkered flag. Second place, however, was a constant battle between King, Bernier, and rookie Eric Chaput. It was Chaput who walked away with the second-place win.

Saturday was a bit less exciting, with Lazare earning pole position and keeping the lead for the whole race. After this weekend, the halfway point in the Nissan Micra Cup season, Kevin King is standing at first place in championship points, followed by Marco Signoretti in second place, Frederic Bernier in third, and Tylor Near in fourth.

The race weekend was far more than just the race teams, though. Nissan Canada invited owners of production Nissan Micra vehicles to the race, and they paraded their cars with pride before the event.

We can’t wait to see how the rest of the Nissan Micra Cup season goes, especially if the excitement of the first half is a preview of what’s to come.
