Limited Run 2016 Subaru Series.HyperBlue BRZ, WRX STI Priced
Only 700 special edition WRX STIs and 500 special edition BRZs will hit the US
Earlier this summer, Subaru announced that it would be producing limited edition variants of both the WRX STI and the BRZ, called Series.HyperBlue. The special package had been available on the 2015 BRZ to great success, encouraging its revival in 2016 and its extension to the 2016 WRX STI. Only 700 2016 Subaru Series.HyperBlue WRX STI models will be made available in the United States; even fewer (500) Series.HyperBlue BRZs will be up for grabs.
A few days ago, Subaru announced pricing for both of the models ahead of their arrival at select locations this autumn. The 2016 Subaru Series.HyperBlue BRZ will retail for $27,690, and the WRX STI Series.HyperBlue models will sell for $38,995.
2016 Subaru Series.HyperBlue BRZ – $27,690
Like the regular 2016 BRZ, the special edition model gets its power from a 2.0-liter BOXER engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission and good for 200 horsepower. The exterior is noticeably marked by a 2016 Series.HyperBlue paintjob, but the BRZ’s fierce stance is also helped by 17-inch black alloy wheels. The exterior benefits from black finish for the exterior badging and mirrors.
Inside, the Series.HyperBlue BRZ continues the vivid blue theme with Hyper Blue stitching accents for the seats, the leather-wrapped parking brake handle, and the shift lever boot. Blue is also used on the door trim, center console kneepads, and the carpeted floor mats, which also boast the silver BRZ logo. Technology abounds inside with a rear vision camera and the SUBARU STARLINK 6.2-inch Multimedia System, which includes a 6.2-inch single-touch gesture display, Radio Data Broadcast System, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, an AM/FM stereo with HD Radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and audio streaming, iTunes tagging and iPod control, a single-disc CD player, a USB port, and an auxiliary input jack. Occupants can also rely on smartphone integrating with apps like Pandora, iHeartRadio, and Stitcher.
Destination and delivery adds $795 to the base price.
2016 Subaru Series.HyperBlue WRX STI – $38,995
The special edition Subaru WRX STI sits on 18-inch BBS Black Alloy wheels. It also gets the Series.HyperBlue paintjob, and that blue theme carries over into the interior with Hyper Blue stitching on the standard Alcantara seats, as well as the console, the manual transmission shifter boot, the leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the carpeted floor mats, which are complete with the Cherry Red STI logo.
Inside, the Series.HyperBlue WRX STI also boasts a SUBARU STARLINK 7.0-inch Multimedia Navigation System with 9 Harman/Kardon speakers and a 440-watt amplifier. The tilt/telescoping steering wheel features switches for Bluetooth and audio, and the electroluminescent gauge panel incorporates a 3.5-inch central LCD screen to display information the driver needs while on the go.
Other features include Keyless Access with Push-Button Start and PIN Code Access. The WRX STI special edition also includes Welcome Lighting that illuminates (interior and exterior) as the driver approaches or even leaves the car.
A 2.5-liter turbocharged/intercooled BOXER engine delivers 305 horsepower for the 2016 WRX STI. Performance is enhanced by the Multi-Model Driver Controlled Center Differential and Subaru’s famous Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. A six-speed manual allows for responsive driving, and handling is improved via a number of technologies, including Multi-Mode Dynamics Control, Active Torque Vectoring, and Brembo Performance Brakes with Super Sport ABS.
Destination and delivery adds $795 to the base price.
The 2016 Subaru Series.HyperBlue WRX STI and BRZ will be available this fall.
