Matthew McConaughey returns to promote the all-new Lincoln MKX

Everybody’s favorite rambling, finger-rolling, Oscar-winning pitchman is returning to the Lincoln brand just in time to promote the release of the all-new 2016 MKX.

Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey will be returning to the small screen this fall in a series of new ads for the Lincoln Motor Company. It was originally announced that McConaughey had inked a deal to promote Lincoln’s MKC crossover almost exactly one year ago, and the resulting advertisements resulted in a huge surge in interest for the brand.

McConaughey’s infamous commercials featured the actor musing philosophically whilst driving through Dallas, Texas in an MKC (and, in later ads, an MKZ sedan). Jim Carrey’s turn as McConaughey in a trio of vignettes that aired during his October 2014 hosting stint on Saturday Night Live propelled the commercials into the cultural consciousness, and a viral sensation was born. The commercials spawned parodies from everyone from Conan O’Brien and Ellen DeGeneres to the Cedar Hill Police Department and UFC fighter Mike Pyle.

Rather than take it seriously, Lincoln rode the wave to increased brand awareness and interest among consumers. Lincoln spokesman Stephane Cesareo told Automotive News that the parody videos were “an interesting development” and noted that the collaboration with McConaughey “is working very well.” Indeed, in the first month of the campaign, Lincoln’s sales leapt by 25%.

There’s little insight as to what the ads will entail (our guess: gravely monologues and lots of hero shots of both McConaughey and the MKX), but the Detroit Free Press says that the campaign will begin on September 12th and will be broadcast during NFL games.
